Which Conduit Do You Need?

Not all conduits are the same, and picking the wrong type on a job creates problems fast.

Above-Ground Installations: Grey Rigid PVC

Standard grey PVC rigid conduit is your above-ground workhorse. Surface-mounted on walls and ceilings, routed through concrete slabs, and installed in switchboard enclosures, it handles the bulk of conduit work on residential and commercial sites.

Rigid conduit lengths are available in 20mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, and 50mm diameters, all manufactured to AS/NZS 61386.21.

Underground Conduit Runs: Orange Heavy-Duty PVC

Orange heavy-duty PVC is rated for direct burial without additional mechanical protection, but it's still a single-run conduit product. It's the right call for a sub-board feed going underground or a conduit run through a driveway. If you're putting a single protected cable run in the ground, orange heavy-duty is what you need. Don't use grey below ground.

Flexible Conduit for Awkward Connections

Flexible conduit covers the connections that rigid options can't handle—motor terminations, tight bends behind switchboards, vibrating plant connections. It takes the movement so your installation doesn't. Liquid-tight variants are available for wet and outdoor locations.

Cable Duct for Multi-Service Underground Runs

A cable duct is a different product designed for a different job. Where conduit protects a single cable run, duct is designed for large-bore buried infrastructure, such as subdivisions, roading projects, and utility trenches where multiple services share the same corridor. Sizes run from 32mm up to 150mm in 6m lengths, with swept bends, couplings, and all fittings included.

Colour coding is non-negotiable on multi-service trenches. Orange identifies electrical services, green identifies telecom. Getting it right keeps the job inspection-ready and protects future contractors from cutting into the wrong service. Both are manufactured to AS/NZS 2053 and AS/NZS 61386.

Cable Trays: the Right Call for Multi-Cable Overhead Runs

Cable trays are standard in commercial and industrial builds where multiple cables need to run overhead and stay accessible. Perforated steel tray suits lighter data and power cable runs; it's fast to install, ventilates well, and keeps things tidy. For heavier loads, such as main power feeders and large multicore cables, the cable ladder provides the required structural span and load capacity.

Material matters depending on where the tray is going. Pre-galvanised steel works well in most indoor commercial environments. Hot-dip galvanised is the better call for outdoor and exposed installs. If you're working near the coast or in a food-processing or chemical plant environment, stainless steel is the one you want; the zinc coating on standard galvanised steel won't hold up in corrosive conditions long term.

All cable tray products include the full range of fittings: bends, tees, risers, splice plates, and wall brackets. No separate sourcing required.

Trunking, Support Accessories, & Everything Else

Surface trunking keeps cable runs neat and accessible in switchrooms, server rooms, and along corridor walls. Slotted and solid variants are available with matching fittings and lids. Support accessories cover the rest: cable hangers, strut channel, threaded rod, and fixings. We have everything you need for electrical conduit in NZ, in one place.

The Cables to Run Through It

Once containment is sorted, the full cable range covers TPS, multicore, data, control, and more, all in one place.
